SCBWF Weekend (Trip J) – Merritt Island Nat’l Wildlife Refuge (trails/roads)

**Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival Weekend**
A group of local trip leaders, tour guides, and industry vendors are planning the return of the SCBWF in 2024. As a ‘warm up’ to the festival’s return the foundational group is conducting a birding weekend to showcase the immense diversity of bird species found in our area. The weekend will include a series of field trips from 19-23 January. Space Coast Audubon is providing support through promotion, hosting, and field trip leader involvement.
**TRIP I: MINWR (trails and roads)**
Trip Leader: Tom Ledford
This trip will focus on lesser birded areas of the refuge and will **not** include Black Point Drive. We will meet at 7:30am at the parking area on the right side of road at the entrance to the refuge on Max Brewer Parkway (cross Max Brewer Bridge heading toward the Refuge, park in the paved lot on the right – near West Gator Creek Road).
Logistics: Driving trip with multiple stops and some walking. Leader will determine which roads and trails to visit based on recent sightings and areas reopened after the hurricane repairs. Restroom available at the Visitor Center. PRIOR to the trip, participants can utilize the port-a-potty at Parrish Park boat ramp. **Ensure you arrive at the parking lot by 7:30am.**
What to Bring: Water, snack, bug repellent, sunscreen, binoculars.
