Scottish Dancing is guaranteed to help you with those goals. \nIf you know your right from your left (eventually) and can count to 4 you are qualified for this event. No partner and/or experience is needed to participate. Sam and Graham from Outlander have a conflict\, but we will learn the dance featured on a “Men In Kilts” episode. \nJames is a fully certificated teacher by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and has been dancing since 1982\, \nOriginally the word Ceilidh (kay-lee) descended from the Gaelic word for ‘gathering’ or ‘party’… However\, these days when people think of a Ceilidh\, they think of a fun filled night of wild dancing\, good music and great company! Please come along and see what it is all about. Wear comfortable shoes (tennis shoes are fine). Wearing tartan is optional. Darryl has a fleet of kayaks while James has a collection of kilts.

DESCRIPTION:Let’s paddle Shingle Creek. I checked out the launch and take out sites today (Sunday). We will meet at Marsh Landing at 9 am and unload the boats. We will start the car shuttle to Big Toho Marina by 9:15 am. If you need more time then please plan to arrive earlier\, We will leave someone with the boats\, drive all the cars to Big Toho Marina\, park in the huge parking lot\, and bring the fewest possible number of cars back to Marsh Landing. We will paddle upstream no more than a mile\, turnaround and paddle downstream past Marsh Landing to Lake Toho. Lake Toho is a big grass filled lake with channels for navigation. This will not be a repeat of the St Johns River trip where some members are still in therapy for their time on white-cap-encrusted Lake Washington. We will paddle to the east side of Paradise Island and stop for lunch at the county park (thanks to edward for this part of the plan)\, and then make our way to Big Toho Marina at the Kissimmee Lakefront Boat Ramp. Expect at least 8 miles of paddling. There will be bathrooms available at both Marsh Landing and at Big Toho Marina (Big Toho Marina\, 69 Lakeview Dr\, Kissimmee\, FL 34741). There is no cost to park at either place. \nPlease review the maps to be familiar with the area. \nIf\, for some reason\, you are too late to join the shuttle then check in with Yvette or Donna at Marsh Landing for instructions. \nThere is a “boatload” of auto traffic in Kissimmee\, so Virginia\, just because google maps gives you an estimate of travel time required if may not actually be true. \nSince football season is upon us I will go with a gridiron metaphor: we will be monitoring the weather\, and I reserve the right to make game-day / line-of-scrimmage modifications to the paddling plan. As such\, please bring a small light\, preferably red\, so that other kayakers can tell where you are. (And bug spray for the pesky critters!) We’ll meet at Kiwanis Island Park at the building near the entrance. There will probably be some kayak outfitters there\, so look for our group. It will be a short paddle\, generally about an hour total\, but well worth it if we find bioluminescence!

DESCRIPTION:Maybe it will be cooler paddling among the mangroves of Thousand Islands in Cocoa Beach. We’ve done this one before\, and it’s a favorite. There are lots of mangrove trails to wind through\, along with open water for those less adventurous (or with longer kayaks/paddleboards)! Meet at Ramp Road Park at 8:00 and everyone should be in the water by 8:15. This is a popular spot for kayaking with lots of parking\, and we should be there early enough to get a spot!

To celebrate their 50th anniversary FWH is offering a special sneak peak of what goes on behind the hospital doors. \nSC Audubon will join members of Space Coast Friends of FL Master Naturalists on a private\, behind the scenes tour through the hospital and see the specialized enclosures on FWH’s five acre property. The tour will include information about patient diets\, treatments\, and types of animals in FWH’s care. \nDue to the limited size of the patient care areas this tour is limited to 10 people plus our trip leader. **Space Coast Audubon has 3 slots.** Cost is $15 (**paid in cash at the door to the trip leader)**. DESCRIPTION:THIS TRIP IS FOR VERY EXPERIENCED KAYAKERS ONLY.\nIf you have any questions about your fitness please message me (James) directly before signing up.\nWe’ll meet at Riverbend Park in Jupiter\, shuttle cars to Jonathan Dickinson State Park\, then drive back to Riverbend to start the 7.5-mile journey down the Loxahatchee River. The river has a couple dams that we will need to traverse. With the water levels high\, however\, this shouldn’t be an issue. The river is narrow and windy until it opens up closer to Jonathan Dickinson State Park. We’ll go through fresh water and brackish water on the trip\, and hopefully see an abundance of wildlife!\nThe state park is 35 minutes away and there is an entrance fee and a parking fee\, so we need to keep this in mind when shuttling vehicles. This trip is limited to 20 people to minimize the logistics of transportation.\nSometimes there is a 5K race going on at Riverbend Park. if that is the case we will launch from the outfitter parking lot right as you come into Riverbend Park.

DESCRIPTION:Great trip for beginners or anyone that needs to rent a kayak! We’ll launch from Paddling Paradise\, 4220 Dixie Hwy NE\, Palm Bay. You can rent a kayak there\, but please call ahead to reserve a craft. It’s an easy launch area\, so we should be in the water by 9:15. We’ll travel up Turkey Creek through the Sanctuary to the dam and back. There may be some manatees\, dolphins\, turtles\, and possibly alligators along the way! It’s a nice slow paddle with generally smooth waters. Please make sure to call 321-258-4492 if you need to rent a kayak or Paddleboard.

(And bug spray for the pesky critters!) We’ll meet at Kiwanis Island Park at the building near the entrance. There will probably be some kayak outfitters there\, so look for our group. It will be a short paddle\, generally about an hour total\, but well worth it if we find bioluminescence!

DESCRIPTION:An evening paddle close to home. Put in at Scurrah’s Landing at Riverview Park –> 2421 Riverview Dr\, paddle north on the Indian River past the Chart House Restaurant and through the marina to Crane Creek. The creek winds through the downtown area\, past both lush Florida greenery and several houses on the river. Once you can’t paddle anymore\, it’s time to turn around and head back. This is a nice centrally located paddle for those who don’t want to travel too far. After the paddle we’ll meet at Meg O’Malley’s for a little social time.

DESCRIPTION:An evening paddle in central Brevard. Put in at Ballard Park\, 924 Thomas Barbour Drive. Go west on the Eau Gallie River under a bridge\, and up the river. Once you can’t paddle anymore\, it’s time to turn around and head back. On the way back\, there’s a small tributary around the boat docks to the south we can take for a little more paddling! This is an easy centrally located paddle and we may see some manatees and dophins! After the paddle we’ll meet at Pineapples top deck in the Eau Gallie District for a little social time.

We are looking for 3-4 volunteers to stay after the event closes to hand wash\, dry and put away the silverware and utensils. This will enable us to use the Church’s dinner service items and alleviate use of plastic. SUMMARY:Mangroves of Thousand Island - Cocoa Beach
DESCRIPTION:For this paddle we’ll stay local and explore Thousand Islands in Cocoa Beach. We’ve done this one before\, and it’s a favorite. There are lots of mangrove trails to wind through\, along with open water for those less adventurous (or with longer kayaks/paddleboards)! Meet at Ramp Road Park at 8:45 to launch by 9:00. Everyone should be in the water by 9. This is a popular spot for kayaking. There’s lots of parking\, but you should still get there early to get a spot! We will need an organizer/leader for this trip if anyone has done it before and wants to do that.

SUMMARY:Frog Identification and Field Practice: Frog Watch at Brevard Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Space Coast Audubon is joining forces with the Brevard Zoo to offer a private group FrogWatch training program and field practice. The class will be held after hours in the education center\, with field practice inside the Zoo property. A $5.00 donation (cash only – collected at the door) is required to cover cost of materials. Each participant will receive a flashdrive with the frog calls. **** Materials must be ordered in advance\, so please only sign up if you can definitely attend. You will be responsible to cover the $5 fee if you cancel less than 72 hours from the class start time.**** \nFrogWatch USA is a citizen science program established in 1998 to provide individuals\, groups and families with opportunities to learn about wetlands in their communities by reporting on the calls of local frogs and toads. Through Brevard Zoo’s FrogWatch USA training program\, trained individuals will be able to listen for frogs and toads during evenings and submit their observations to a national online database. **Check in will begin at 5:45 at the EdZOOcation gate north of the zoo’s main entrance.** The training will start at 6:00 pm\, and will conclude with an immersive in the field practice in the Brevard Zoo Wetlands classroom\, a pavilion overlooking Brevard Zoo’s restored wetlands habitat. \nPlease Bring: $5 cash donation\, refillable water bottle\, bug spray\, and wear shoes that can get wet or muddy. \nLooking forward to sharing another tool for contributing to Community Science data.\nRochelle
