Regarding the dispute between the EEL Program and the Town of Malabar regarding the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary, a conflict resolution meeting will be held.
The meeting is public and public speakers will be allowed. The issue here is that the off-road bikers want the trees preserved throughout the property to shade the trails. The property has multiple families of Florida Scrub Jays and had good scrub habitat if maintained properly. This property is attractive for scrub jays because it is very close to other scrub habitat with jays, including Jordan Scrub, another EEL sanctuary. Mike Knight, with support of the SMC, has offered to preserve the trees along the property borders and to move the bike trails to the edges. Apparently, the mountain bikers and some on the Town Council won’t accept that offer.
If you are interested in attending this meeting, you are welcome to do so and provide your input if you would like. Speakers will likely need to submit a speaker card and each speaker typically gets 3 minutes only.
Location is the First Baptist Church fellowship hall. 1665 Malabar Road in Malabar. The meeting starts at 10am.
